We were very excited to have our first ever diabetes camp in Northern Thailand over the weekend starting March 10th. Action4Diabetics welcomed 30 children with Type 1 diabetes and their families to this educational and inspirational event.
The camp was held in collaboration with the Maharaj Nakorn Hospital and included interactive workshops, exercise classes and blood testing training! Under the expert guidance of Dr Prapai and the A4D team, the children on our programme and their families had a wonderful weekend playing games and learning how to control the condition. Most importantly, they learnt that when managed correctly, Type 1 diabetes is not an excuse!
A wonderful group of volunteers where also on hand to assist with the smooth running of the weekend, which was principally organised by our General Manager, Fiona Ooi. Everyone was very excited on Day 2 when a group of local musicians came to perform, leading to some brilliant group dance routines. This included a unique performance of the ‘Chicken Dance’ by our very talented volunteers.
A massive thank you to all those who came and helped out and of course those who have made the donations that make an event like this possible. We are really pleased that we have been able to expand our operations and reach more and more young people with Type 1 diabetes, changing their lives for the better and providing them with hope and opportunity
