Sir Chris Bonington
Sir Chris Bonington

We are incredibly pleased to announce that Sir Chris Bonington CVO, CBE, DL and one of Britain’s national treasures, is our new Action4Diabetics patron.
Our Co-Founders, Charles Toomey and Jerry Gore, had no difficulty in recruiting Sir Chris whilst scaling a previously unclimbed rock face in Southern France! An impressive feat, especially as Sir Chris, only three months ago, had a hip replacement operation! It is this active “hand’s on” approach which makes Sir Chris our ideal A4D patron.
Sir Chris’ lifelong passion for mountaineering has resulted in nineteen expeditions to the Himalayas, which included his leadership of the expedition that made the first ascent of the South West Face of Mount Everest and the South Face of Annapurna. Sir Chris was knighted in 1996 for his services to mountaineering, confirming his status as the Godfather of British mountaineering.
As one of his grandchildren suffers from the condition, Sir Chris fully understands the challenges that Type 1 Diabetes can bring. His respect for our passion and commitment to the cause, and our shared values, promise to make this a productive relationship that will help make a real difference to the lives of young people with Diabetes across SE Asia.
We are all delighted to welcome Sir Chris to the A4D Team and we look forward to his support, advice and counsel in the years to come.
Welcome, Sir Chris Bonington, our A4D Patron!
